For the Temporary Graduate Visa (485) Post Study Work, followings are the 485 periods depend on your qualification.
Bachelors Degree (including honours): 2 years
Masters degree (by coursework): 2 years
Masters degree (by research): 3 years
Doctorate: 4 years
From 20 January 2021, an international student who studied in regional area (outside of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane) will be given an opportunity to extend their temporary graduate visa (485) additional 1 year or 2 years. It will depend on category of “Regional”.
Category 1: Major cities:
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane (no regional incentives)
Category 2: Cities and Major Regional Cities
Perth, Adelaide, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, Canberra, Newcastle/ Lake Macquarie, Wollongong/ Illawarra, Geelong, Hobart
(Eligible for additional 1 year on second 485)
Category 3: Regional centres and other regional areas
(Eligible for additional 2 years on second 485)
Temporary Graduate Visa (TGV) 485 Graduate Stream (1.5 yrs) is excluded from the regional concessions.
This regional concessions for second visa is available to graduates from regional institutions who lived, studied and worked only in a regional area on their first TGQ in the Post-Study Work stream for at least two years immediately before making the application for the second visa.
The second TGV has a visa condition that requires the holder to live (and work or study, if relevant) only in regional Australia. (this condition also applies to family members.
